Skate Basics course starts 7 August!
Join us for our legendary skate basics course – learn the foundations of skating over three months.
No experience necessary!
Cape Town Rollergirls and a team of experienced skaters will aim to teach you all the basics of quad roller skating, including:
– Stopping and falling safely
– Forward strides and cross-overs
– Backward skating and 180° turns
– and so much more!
You will receive a download link when you have checked out and paid – this link is VERY IMPORTANT. Please ensure you fill out the form, view our welcome pack and watch the video on how to fall safely before joining the course. Lessons begin on Thursday, 7 August 2025 and continue every Thursday evening for 12 weeks.
Additional self practice on the sidelines is available every Tuesday evening during the 12 weeks.
Time: 7–9pm (Thursdays & Tuesdays)
Duration: 12 weeks (August, September, October) with 12 lessons and 11 self practice sessions (23 opportunities to skate).
Last Thursday will be the assessment for those who want to play roller derby.

Course fee: R440 per month (billed monthly) second and third month will be invoiced accordingly.
Additional cost to rent skates and/or protective gear: R120 per month (billed monthly) second and third month will be invoiced accordingly.
Please note your skates and safety gear fee covers rental for self practice evenings as well.
By purchasing this product you are paying for the first month only. You will then receive invoices for the remaining months with EFT or payment link details.
Must be 16+
Helmets + Safety Gear are mandatory.
No inlines allowed, venue policy.

If you’re learning to skate and not sure where your skate journey is taking you – welcome and we are happy to have you! If you’re learning with the intention of playing roller derby, this sport will change your life! It is hard work, and very rewarding. In order to qualify to take the final assessment and level up to our Derby Fundamentals course, you will need to attend minimum 80% of our learn to skate sessions.
