Yes! We have a comprehensive 12-week course taught by experienced skaters. You can learn more and sign up for the next course here.
Roller Skating is as safe as playing any other sport or leisure activity. We take warm-ups very seriously to minimise impact to any joints and muscles and wear full protective gear at all times.
Rollerskating provides about 50 percent less impact to the joints when compared to running, according to the University of Massachusetts. As a result, someone with knee or hip injuries can use skating as a low-impact cardio and muscle-building exercise routine.
We recommend skating on smooth surfaces like our floor and avoid making sudden stops, turns or twists to reduce the impact on your joints. We can teach you how to build up stamina and strength to do so safely.
We accept anyone over the age of 16 for our Learn to Skate programme. Anyone over the age of 18 is eligible to join the league and play on a team.
There is no age limit thereafter! We have skaters in our programmes in their 60s, and skaters in our derby teams in their 40s and 50s.
Skating is incredibly good for your muscles and bones and a great way to stay fit at any age.
If you’d like to learn how to roller skate or if you’d like to start playing roller derby, your journey starts with signing up for our Skate Basics course. You can email us at capetownrollergirls@gmail.com or find out more about the course here.

Great question! Our floor is buttery smooth sprung wood – making for a beautiful skate experience.
Our venue is also large – we have two tracks with space for an audience, and can accommodate for big practices (and big discos!). Whatever your reason for skating with us, rest assured that you will have ample space around you to skate comfortably.
Absolutely! You can join next Skate Basics course where you’ll be given training by one our friendly coaches. No previous skating experience is necessary; we’ll happily train you from scratch!
